Everything is personal.
(And most everything here is mine unless otherwise indicated.)
I know it’s been a while. A really long while. I’ve missed you. I’ve been bad. Actually, more like busy and unable to find a moment to post. But truth is I’ve been working on lots of things. Whenever I’ve not been shooting for clients, I’ve been trying to keep busy shooting for myself. So I’ve been working on a few personal projects. This is the first of them, from a series I suppose I’m simply calling “Lover.”
The idea came about from the fact that I’m actually blind. I wear contact lenses. When I take them off and I have to read something without my glasses, I have to hold whatever I’m reading at about two and a half inches from my eyes. And when I’m that close to something - or someone - that which I’m looking at appears with so much more detail than if I was looking at it with contacts. Almost as if through a loupe.
Which is why I decided to shoot this series with 4x5 film, which was a bit of a challenge for reasons I’ll get into some other time. Needless to say, I want to blow these up big, and show the detail and the landscape of this very willing, patient (and beautiful) subject.
Subliminous. I know it’s been a while. A really long while. I’ve missed you. I’ve been bad. (…)
I’m looking forward to this new series.
Love it.
